What is Water Mist?
Water mist is a fire protection system that uses very tiny water droplets to extinguish fire. Heat absorption is a function of surface area. Therefore smaller droplets mean more surface area and faster heat absorption.
Tiny water mist droplets are easily vaporized when they come in contact with the fire, when water changes state from a liquid to a gas it expands by a factor of 1600 to 1. This high expansion ratio causes the air and oxygen to be displaced away from the seat of the fire, starving the fire of oxygen which aids in extinguishment.
